Gold Coast mangrove jack fishing can be good right through the day, but the low light periods around dawn, dusk and through the night are definitely peak times. After years of chasing them, jacks are still one of my favorite target species and I often make the drive from north Brisbane down to the Gold Coast.
Once they reach maturity at between 40 and 50cm in length, most mangrove jacks move out of the estuaries to offshore reefs where mature fish. Tagging data shows that most of the offshore movements of mangrove jacks from the rivers occurs when they mature at between 40 and 55 cm in length.
